Top high school players drafting plans

North Little Rock center fielder Brian Bryles is widely considered the best bet as the first Arkansas high school player to be drafted, but that doesn’t seem to make much difference to Bryles.

“My mind’s made up,” said Bryles, who will attend Northeast Texas Community College if he isn’t drafted. “I’m signing.” Camden Fairview pitcher Jim Youngblood may be the second in-state high school player taken but is far from a sure bet to turn pro.

Youngblood, a right-hander, signed with the Arkansas Razorbacks football program in February and, according to his father, Stan, any organization hoping to pry Jim Youngblood loose will have to crack open its pocketbook.

“He would really have to go high,” Stan Youngblood said. “Jim is firmly committed. It would almost be me sitting down with him and saying, ‘OK, Jim, this is money we’re talking about.’” Bryles is similar to former North Little Rock center fielder D’Marcus Ingram, who went in the 25 th round to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006 and hit. 325 with 17 stolen bases in his first season of minor league ball.
