2B—Cannon Lester, Sr., Southern Arkansas (.390-19-72, 8 SB).
Pitcher of the Year: Hayden Simpson, rhp, Southern Arkansas (12-1, 2.32, 109 IP/132 SO).
Harding (Ark.) acquired a premium bat with 3B/OF Jason Nappi, who transferred from Mississippi State to play with his brother, RHP Patrick Nappi. Jason hit eight homers as a freshman but got just 31 at-bats as a sophomore. Patrick transferred in from Alabama after not playing there for two seasons, taking one as a redshirt. However, Harding takes a significant back seat in the state to Southern Arkansas, which boasts D-II's best pitcher, 6-foot RHP Hayden Simpson, who is a staggering 22-1, 2.73 the last two seasons. Simpson cranked up his fastball into the low 90s regularly last season and struck out 132 in 109 innings, allowing just 69 hits. Senior RHP Matt Speake (9-0, 4.22, 3 SV) returns as his wingman.
