WEST DIVISION
Arkansas-Monticello leftfielder Brian Johnson (SR, L/L, 5-11, 195, Greenville, Miss.) and Harding pitcher Troy Keith (SR, R/R, 5-11, 190, Magnolia, Ark.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending February 21.
Johnson is the first Boll Weevil to capture GSC Baseball weekly honors since Nick Tillsley was named West Division Player of the Week March 29, 2005. The award is just the fifth all-time for UAM and ninth including Pitcher laurels. The Greenville, Miss. native went a combined 9-for-21 with nine runs scored and seven RBI in seven games this past week as the Boll Weevils matched last year's win total of nine. The senior also tallied two triples, a home run and two walks as UAM took two of three from Missouri-St. Louis over the weekend.
Keith ended his week completely opposite of how he started it, tossing Harding's sixth no-hitter in school history. The senior was knocked out of last Tuesday's game against Drury (Mo.) in the second inning after giving up five runs on three hits in just an inning and two-thirds of work. The product of Magnolia, Ark. rebounded in the best possible way however, blanking GSC foe Alabama-Huntsville in Saturday's doubleheader opener for his first career shutout. Keith faced just one batter over the minimum with three walks and three strikeouts against the visiting Chargers. It was the first no-hitter for the Bisons since 2004.
