OBU and SAU players honored by Gulf South Conference

GSC Baseball Players of the Week--Feb. 16
WEST DIVISION

Ouachita Baptist first baseman Brock Green (SO, L/R, 6-1, 195, Hot Springs, Ark.) and Southern Arkansas starting pitcher Matt Speake (SR, R/R, 6-1, 205, Tyler, Texas) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending February 14.

Green and OBU only played 14 innings last week but grabs his first career award after leading the Tigers' offense in a two-game set against Kentucky Wesleyan. After its doubleheader against No. 9 Central Missouri was snowed out, OBU thrashed the Panthers Saturday, 19-6, behind the reigning GSC West Division Freshman of the Year. Green went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a double in the lopsided win. The Tigers lost Sunday's contest due to rain cutting short a 3-2 game in the seventh inning, but the sophomore from Hot Springs, Ark. did his part before Mother Nature interrupted, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a solo home run.

Speake collects his first career honor after leading SAU to a 3-1 series win over then-No. 4 Tampa this past weekend. The senior scattered three hits and gave up just one run in a seven-inning, complete game victory over the Spartans, 8-1. The Tyler, Texas native struck out five batters and retired six consecutive at one point while only allowing three Spartans past first base.
