GSC Baseball Weekly Honors

Cannon Lester

GSC Players of the Week
WEST DIVISION

Southern Arkansas third baseman Cannon Lester (SR, R/R, 5-11, 185, El Dorado, Ark.) and Harding pitcher Kyle Cline (SO, R/R, 6-0, 205, Ormond Beach, Fla.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 7.

Lester is the first Mulerider to earn laurels this season but collects his fourth career accolade following a record-breaking week. The El Dorado, Ark. native established three new Southern Arkansas records in hits, runs scored and total bases after putting on a hitting clinic with three hits a piece and at least two RBI in each of the Muleriders' four victories. The senior drove in a total of 11 runs and plated 10 more while belting four doubles and three home runs during SAU's perfect week.

Cline captures his second career award and Harding's second of the year after leading the Bisons during their current seven-game win streak. Against Drury (Mo.) Tuesday, Cline earned his first win of the season with five solid innings, scattering five hits, one run and a walk while striking out two. In Sunday's nightcap against Waldorf (Iowa), the sophomore from Ormond Beach, Fla. tossed his first career shutout, allowing just two hits while fanning five in a 2-0 victory over the Warriors.
