Arkansas-Monticello centerfielder Wayne Hawkins (SO, L/L, 6-0, 185, Memphis, Tenn.) and Ouachita Baptist pitcher Beau Martin (SO, R/R, 5-11, 165, Germantown, Tenn.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 14.Hawkins claims his first career laurel as Arkansas-Monticello wins multiple GSC West Division Player of the Week awards in the same season for just the second time in program history (1999). The Memphis, Tenn. native returned to his hometown this past weekend as the Boll Weevils took all three games from Christian Brothers for their first GSC series sweep since 2005. The sophomore drove in at least one run in every game while going 4-for-6 at the dish with six walks. Hawkins also plated the game-winning run Sunday as UAM completed the sweep, 11-10.
Martin garners his first career accolade after tossing 15 scoreless innings in two starts this past week for the Tigers. After scattering five hits in seven shutout innings Tuesday against Hendrix (Ark.), the Germantown, Tenn. native threw an eight-inning gem in the rubber game at then-No. 21 Delta State Sunday. The sophomore allowed just two hits and one walk while fanning four Statesmen as OBU claimed the three-game set from DSU, 4-0.
