Southern Arkansas shortstop Andrew Whittington (SR, L/R, 6-2, 200, Texas City, Texas) and starting pitcher Hayden Simpson (JR, R/R, 6-0, 175, Magnolia, Ark.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 21.
Whittington grabs his second career Player of the Week honor and first this year. The Texas City, Texas native was a combined 11-for-14 with eight runs scored and five RBI in four games this past week. The senior also had a pair of doubles and triples as his bat was red-hot for the Muleriders' two-game sweep of Henderson State this past weekend. Whittington was 7-for-9 with five runs scored, two RBI and a triple against the visiting Reddies.
Simpson adds to his GSC-record Pitcher of the Week laurels with his seventh career award and second this season. The hometown product from Magnolia threw the 10th complete game of his career in a 14-0, run-rule shortened game against visiting Henderson State Saturday. The junior allowed just four hits while fanning 10 batters, running his total to 57 strikeouts in 47.2 innings this season.
