2010 All-Arkansas Awards

Natural State Baseball is pleased to announce its 2010 All-Arkansas Collegiate Team and Awards. Southern Arkansas is the Arkansas Team of the Year. The Muleriders were 47-10 in 2010, including going 16-0 against in-state competition. SAU finished the season ranked 5th nationally and lost a regional final to host team Tampa in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament.

Arkansas Tech head coach Dave Dawson is named the coach of the year after the Wonder Boys won a school-record 35 games in 2010. ATU narrowly missed out on its first ever NCAA Division II tournament birth, despite finishing 14-6 in the Gulf South Conference and being ranked in the top 10 for much of the season. 2010 was Dave Dawson's first year at the helm of the Tech program. He spent the previous four seasons at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, where he compiled a 115-94 record and conference titles in 2008 and 2009.

Cannon Lester and Hayden Simpson of Southern Arkansas repeat as player and pitcher of the year, respectively. The two Muleriders were also named to the All-Arkansas team in 2008.

Cannon Lester was also the winner of the Natural Award, given to the best player from the state of Arkansas, in 2009. In 2010 the SAU third-baseman hit .396 with 15 home runs and 25 doubles. He also had 76 RBI and stole 10 bases in 14 attempts.

Hayden Simpson, a first round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs, is the 2010 Pitcher of the Year and recipient of the Natural Award. The Magnolia native was brilliant again in 2010, compiling a 13-1 record and 1.81 ERA in 15 starts. He had 131 strikeouts in 99.1 innings and threw 3 shutouts and 6 complete games.

The Freshman of the Year is shortstop Seth Hobbs of Arkansas Baptist College. Hobbs hit .339 in 46 games for the Buffalos and collected 20 extra base hits and 22 RBI. He also stole 38 bases in 46 attempts.
