GAC Weekly Player Awards

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas' William Townsend and Arkansas Tech's Ryan Taylor earned the Great American Conference baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the third week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Monday.

GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – William Townsend, Southern Arkansas, CF, So., Natchitoches, La.
Townsend recorded at least one hit, one run scored, and had one RBI in all three games of the series against No. 26 Southwestern Oklahoma State. In the first two games, both SAU wins, Townsend collected six hits in nine at bats with three runs scored and three RBI. Overall, Townsend hit .583 with two triples, a double, four runs scored and four RBI.

GAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Ryan Taylor, Arkansas Tech, RHP, Sr., Olathe, Kan.
Taylor earned his first win of the 2014 season as he held down Southern Nazarene to just one run over 6.2 innings of work. He surrendered only three hits and issued two walks while striking out nine in the 5-1 win on Friday. He limited the Crimson Storm offense to a .143 batting average as Tech claimed the first game of what became a three-game series sweep.

NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                    

  • James Anderson, OF, Sr., Harding (Hit .400 with a .471 on-base percentage vs Northeastern State and Truman State)
  • Zac Johnson, RF, Sr., Arkansas Tech (Drove in five runs and scored six times as Wonder Boys swept Southern Nazarene)
  • Travis Steinke, C, So., Arkansas-Monticello (Hit .500 with a home run, four walks and three RBI in a series win vs NWOSU)

NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  

  • Timothy Buchanan, LHP, So., Southern Arkansas (Improved to 3-0 as he beat #26 SWOSU; struck out six in 7.0 IP)
  • Keegan Ghidotti, RHP, Sr., Ouachita Baptist (Recorded two saves against ECU; hit .500 with three RBI and three runs scored)
  • Logan Johnson, RHP, Jr., Arkansas-Monticello (Threw a complete-game six-hit victory against Northwestern Oklahoma State)
