Cory Malcom named Sunbelt Pitcher of the Week

For the second consecutive week, Malcom tied a career high with 11 strikeouts in seven innings of work and allowed just five hits and a walk against the Boilermakers. Malcom was the first Trojan pitcher to record back-to-back performances with at least 10 strikeouts since Chance Cleveland in 2012.

Ryan Scott earns 2 more All American Honors

Former Little Rock Trojan Ryan Scott continues to earn All-American honors two weeks after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round of the MLB Draft. Earlier this week, Scott was named a Third Team All-American by Perfect Game and was also named to HERO Sports D1 Baseball All-America Team.

Little Rock's most decorated player in program history has now been named an All-American six different times this postseason, three more than any other former Trojan.

In addition to his recent honors, Scott was named an ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American, a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, a D1Baseball Third Team All-American and a College Sports Madness Third Team All-American.

Ryan Scott named ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American

Former Trojan and seventh-round draft pick Ryan Scott has been named a 2016 ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American, the organization announced Saturday afternoon.

Scott now has four All-American honors this postseason, the most by any Little Rock player in program history. Prior to today, Scott was named a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, a D1Baseball Third Team All-American and a College Sports Madness Third Team All-American.

Scott's astounding 2016 season was one for the record books at Little Rock.  He broke Little Rock's single-season records for hits (94), RBIs (66), total bases (154) and batting average (.435), Division I's best. He also broke the program's all-time record for doubles (44).

Curry Named UALR Head Baseball Coach

UALR Director of Athletics Chris Peterson has announced the hiring of Little Rock native Chris Curry as head baseball coach. A veteran of seven years as a catcher in professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants organizations, Curry recently completed his second year as top assistant and pitching coach at Northwestern State and previously worked on the baseball staffs at Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Hendrix and Meridian Community College.

Norwood Announces Resignation as UALR Head Baseball Coach

Scott Norwood has announced his immediate resignation as head baseball coach at UALR to pursue other opportunities. Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chris Marx will serve as interim head coach while a national search begins immediately.

“I appreciate the opportunities that I have been given at UALR,” said Norwood. “I wish UALR success in the future.”


Norwood compiled a 148-178 record and led UALR to two Sun Belt Tournament appearances in six seasons as head coach of the Trojans. UALR is coming off a 2014 campaign that saw the team finish with a 25-29 overall record.

Week 3 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week
Drew Merten (UALR, Junior, C)
Merten led the Trojans to a 3-0 week. The junior had five RBIs and came up a clutch hits in wins over UIC and IPFW. On Friday against UIC he hit a two-run double that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. On Saturday he broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single. Merten reached base in 10 of his 12 plate appearances for an .833 on-base percentage. Merten caught all three games on the week for UALR.

UALR Baseball Unveils Upgrades to Gary Hogan Field

Head coach Scott Norwood and the UALR baseball program recently unveiled the latest in a series of upgrades to Gary Hogan Field. New slats installed to the outfield fence, new pitcher’s and bullpen mounds as well as new workout equipment in the indoor hitting facility were all part of the latest improvements.

Trojans Claim First NCAA Regional Berth

The UALR baseball team qualified for its first-ever NCAA Regional with a 7-6 victory over Florida International (40-18-1) in the Sun Belt Tournament Championship game at Warhawk Field on Sunday. The Trojans (24-32) put together a perfect 4-0 record at the Sun Belt Tournament to claim the program's first SBC Tournament title and become the first No.8-seed in league history to win the conference championship.
