American Southwest Conference Awards

Seven University of the Ozarks baseball players received All-Conference honors from the American Southwest Conference, it was announced Wednesday (May 10).

Junior outfielder Justin Crider headlined the group with a First Team selection. Senior outfielder Andrew Beck and junior utility player Patrick Clifford made the Third Team. Freshman First baseman Chase Edwards, junior second baseman Josh Woolly, sophomore third baseman Dakota Ebarb and junior catcher Bryce Elder each made the Honorable Mention Team.

2 University of the Ozarks players named All-ASC

University of the Ozarks baseball players Andrew Beck and Brady Taylor were named All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference, it was announced Monday by ASC Media Relations Director Jimmy Glenn.

Beck, a junior centerfielder from Conway, Ark., made the All-ASC First Team. Taylor, a freshman pitcher from Plano, Texas, made the Honorable Mention Team.


Beck ranked second in the ASC in batting (.429), and led the team in hits (48), total bases (61), slugging percentage (.545), on-base percentage (.454) and home runs (2). He also drove in 16 runs and scored 17 times. He owned a .977 fielding percentage. Beck had a 22-game hit-streak during the season, hitting .494 during that stretch. He recorded 14 multiple-hit games and posted six three-hit games during the season. Against Westminster College February 20, Beck went 5-for-5 with four RBI. He homered and drove in three runs against Hendrix College February 24.

Brady Taylor named ASC Co-Pitcher of the Week

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Brady Taylor, Fr., RHP, Ozarks
Freshman pitcher Brady Taylor (Plano, Texas / Plano West HS) tossed a three-hit complete game shutout to lead Ozarks to a 1-0 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday in game one of a three-game series. Taylor allowed just five base runners and striking out three to earn his second win of the season. Taylor issued only one walk over seven innings and faced the minimum in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. He improved to 2-1 on the mound.

Aaron Gentry Named New Head Baseball Coach at University of the Ozarks

Aaron Gentry, a two-time winner of the American Southwest Conference Coaching Staff of the Year award at LeTourneau University, was named the new Head Baseball Coach at the University of the Ozarks, it was announced by Athletic Director Jimmy Clark Tuesday.
   
Gentry has served as the assistant coach at LeTourneau University the past eight years and helped guide the program to its three most successful seasons in program history. During that three-year run, LeTourneau qualified for the ASC playoffs back-to-back seasons, and won one ASC title. In 2014, the YellowJackets had a banner year, earning a berth in the NCAA III Regionals as well as winning an ASC Tournament championship. The 2014 team also won a program-best 33 games behind one of the ASC's most potent offenses and efficient pitching staffs. In 2015, LeTourneau again qualified for the playoffs and eight players earned All-Conference recognition. In 2013, LeTourneau posted its first winning season since 1999 and improved its win total by seven from the previous season. Over the past three seasons, the program went 73-48.

Gentry signed with the University of Arkansas after an impressive high school career at Claremore. After being drafted in the 12^th round in 1997, Gentry played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1997-2000. He was drafted three times by three different major league baseball teams.

American South Players of the Week

CO-HITTER OF THE WEEK: Freddy Prince, Sr., OF, Ozarks
Outfielder Freddy Prince (Jonesboro, Ark./Westside HS) delivered a two-out game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh to propel Ozarks to a 1-0 win in game one of their series against Hardin-Simmons. Prince finished with week 7-for-16 with six RBI and five runs scored. Prince had three multi-hit games.

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
Ozarks senior pitcher Jeffrey Works threw a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Hardin-Simmons Thursday afternoon to propel the Eagles to a series win. Works fanned 10 and scattered four hits over seven innings. He issued two walks in the seven-inning game.

Scott Dietz and Cory Briggs named ASC East hitter/pitcher of the Week

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Scott Dietz, 1B, Jr., Ozarks

Ozarks junior first baseman Scott Dietz (Rowlett, TX / RHS) went 7-for-10 with two home runs, one triple, one double and seven RBIs to fuel an ASC East Division series sweep of LeTourneau. Dietz also scored five runs, walked once and stole a base. He did not strike out. In Game 3 of the series, Dietz recroded both his long balls with one being a grand slam in the first inning.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Cory Briggs, RHP, Sr., Ozarks

Ozarks senior right-hander Cory Briggs (Greencastle, PA / Greencastle-Antrim HS) tossed a complete-game with six strikeouts to earn the win in a 4-2 ASC East Division game with LeTourneau. Briggs scattered six hits and walked just two batters over the seven frames. He fanned two batters in the seventh and also helped his own cause by driving in a run in the sixth inning.

Trio of Elks commit to play college baseball

Elkins' Steven Whitney, Drew Clark and Buddy Diaville, fresh off a Class 3A state championship in May, took part in a signing ceremony with fellow American Legion teammates watching on. Whitney and Diaville will play for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Clark will attend the University of the Ozarks.

Ozarksjunior outfielder Andrew Teaster (Hollister, MO / HHS) went 9-for-18 with three doubles, a triple and a home run to pace a 3-1 week, which included an East Division series win over LeTourneau. Teaster also drove in seven runs, scored six times and walked twice. He was a single short of the cycle in the series opener against LeTourneau.

Bruce Cameron named ASC co-pitcher of the week

Ozarks senior right-hander Bruce Cameron (Houston, TX / Episcopal HS) got the win over nationally-ranked Texas-Tyler by tossing a complete game with just three hits allowed and four strikeouts. Cameron, who allowed just one run to cross the plate over seven innings, worked out of a jam in his final inning by striking out two straight batters with runners in scoring position.

Ozarks' John Scheuring named ACS co-pitcher of the week

John Scheuring, LHP, Sr., Ozarks

Ozarks senior left-hander John Scheuring (Bryan, TX / BHS) went 2-0 with one save over four relief appearances and did not give up a run in 4 2/3 innings of work. Scheuring also struck out seven batters and scattered three hits against Clarke College and conference opponent East Texas Baptist.
