American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week

Luke Carver of William Woods University and Josh Mitchell of Williams Baptist College have been named the American Midwest Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 24. The honor was announced Monday night by the league office.

Carver, a senior first baseman from Jefferson City, Mo., batted .571 in six games last week for the Owls. He went 12-for-21 at the plate with four doubles and two triples along with four runs scored. Carver also drove in seven runs and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts for the week. Thanks in part to Carver's efforts, William Woods has surged above the .500 mark on the season at 12-11.

Mitchell, a freshman from Paragould, Ark., won a close race for top pitching honors in the conference. Mitchell tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout in the Eagles' 7-0 victory over Central Baptist College. He did not walk a batter and struck out one. Mitchell's gem helped Williams Baptist earn a split of the doubleheader with Central Baptist.
