Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week

Ouachita Baptist first baseman Destan Makonnen (SR, L/L, 6-2, 210, Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Delta State starting pitcher Kenny Smalley (JR, R/R, 6-3, 210, St. Charles, Ill.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 30.

Makonnen wins his first career GSC West Player of the Week honor after a tremendous display of power at the plate this past weekend. After sweeping a twin bill at Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday, the Tigers returned to Arkadelphia, Ark. for the cross-street rivalry with Henderson State. Despite only playing Saturday's doubleheader due to rain Sunday, Makonnen and OBU made the most of it with four home runs and 12 RBI in two wins over the Reddies. The senior from Grand Rapids, Mich. had two, three-run shots in Game 1 followed by a grand slam and a solo blast in the nightcap.
