SAU's Cannon Lester and Harding's Kyle Cline earn weekly honors

Gulf South Players of the Week: West Division

Southern Arkansas third baseman Cannon Lester (JR, R/R, 5-11, 185, El Dorado, Ark.) and Harding pitcher Kyle Cline (FR, R/R, 6-0, 210, Ormond Beach, Fla.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 22.

Lester wins his second award this season and of his career, leading the Muleriders to a sweep at Henderson State this past weekend. The junior from El Dorado, Ark. plated runs in all four SAU games last week, once in a mid-week affair against NAIA powerhouse LSU-Shreveport and five more times against the Reddies. The former second baseman belted four doubles against HSU in Saturday's 10-inning, series opening victory, tying a GSC record and setting a new Mulerider mark.

Cline claims his first career accolade after leading the Bisons to a big series win over then-No. 28 Ouachita Baptist this past weekend. The Ormond Beach, Fla. native allowed two runs in the second inning, but shut down the Tigers the rest of the way, allowing Harding's offense to deliver a comeback victory in its final at bat in Sunday's night cap, 3-2. The freshman tossed a complete game, allowing six hits and two walks, fanning six while throwing 70 of his 107 pitches for strikes.
