WEST DIVISIONHarding first baseman Jason Nappi (JR, R/R, 6-1, 205, Birmingham, Ala.) and Arkansas Tech pitcher Blaine Sims (JR, L/L, 6-4, 205, Scott, Ark.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending April 18.
Nappi is the first Bison to capture West Division Player of the Week accolades since Apr. 6, 2004 (Justin Cone). The first baseman ripped opposing pitching over the week, going 12-for-21 with 11 RBI, 10 runs, five doubles and a home run. In Harding's record-setting, 50-run outburst at Arkansas-Monticello this past weekend, the junior from Birmingham, Ala. drove in at least three runs and plated at least two in each of the three games. Along with his power surge, Nappi also drew a walk and stole a pair of bases.
Sims collects his second career laurel after leading Arkansas Tech to its first-ever series win and sweep against Delta State this past weekend. The Wonder Boys' junior allowed just one run and four hits in seven and one-thirds innings in Sunday's finale with the Statesmen. The Scott, Ark. native walked a pair of batters but fanned five as ATU knocked DSU out of contention for its 21st West Division crown and propelled the Wonder Boys to second place.
