Wonder Boys fail to earn NCAA bid

The NCAA announced the 48-team field for the 2010 Division II Baseball Tournament on Sunday evening and the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (35-19 overall) will not one of the five at-large teams selected to represent the South Region in next week’s South Regional Tournament held at the University of Tampa Baseball Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Tech, who was seeking its first-ever appearance in the NCAA D-II Baseball Tournament after winning a school-record 35 games and finishing second in the Gulf South Conference West Division standings with a 14-6 record, entered the final regular season regional rankings that were released this past Wednesday at No. 7, but slipped from the No. 7 spot during selections for this year’s NCAA D-II Tournament.

“Obliviously, we are very disappointed that the NCAA D-II Baseball Committee did not select us to participate in this year’s tournament,” Wonder Boys first-year Head Coach Dave Dawson said. “We had a tremendous season and I’m proud of our accomplishments this year by our players."
