Rogers Heritage’s Hunter Wood and Shiloh Christian’s David Petrino will represent the 16U USSSA National Team in the Gold Medal Games in July in Kissimmee, Fla.Wood finished 8-3 for the War Eagles this season and helped them claim a share of the 7A-West Conference title. Petrino helped lead the Saints to the conference, regional and Class 4A state titles.
The Gold Medal Games will take place July 12-17 at the Osceola Sports Complex in Kissimmee Fla. Mexico, Italy, France, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Canada and the Bahamas are among the teams that will participate against the USSSA National Teams.
Wood and Petrino were selected through a series of qualifying events last summer. Each national team member was invited to a regional tryout based on a camp performance or a scout recommendation. The top individuals from the regional tryout at the 14U, 15U & 16U divisions were then selected to a regional roster to compete in the USSSA All-American Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
The USSSA All-American Games national finalists participated in games at the Osceola Sports Complex for All-American honors and a spot on the USSSA National Team.
