Baxendale named to ABCA All-Region team

Arkansas sophomore pitcher DJ Baxendale was recently named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's All-South region second team.

A right-handed pitcher from Jacksonville, Ark., Baxendale was a true staff ace for the Razorbacks in 2011, finishing the season with a 10-2 record, three saves and a 1.58 ERA in 19 appearances, including 12 starts. Baxendale, who is currently playing with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, became the first Arkansas pitcher to finish a season with a double-digit win total since Nick Schmidt won 11 games in 2007. A semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, Baxendale led Arkansas in innings pitched (85.1) and strikeouts (77). He held opposing hitters to a .228 batting average.
