ATU and SAU players win GSC weekly awards

WEST DIVISION

Arkansas Tech third baseman Tony Sanchez (SR, R/L, 5-7, 183, Mesquite, Texas) and Southern Arkansas starting pitcher Hayden Simpson (SO, R/R, 6-0, 170, Magnolia, Ark.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending April 26.

Sanchez nabs his second career honor with a truly efficient week at the dish this past week. The senior from Mesquite, Texas turned in three multi-hit efforts against GSC Tournament squad Harding as the Wonder Boys took two of three from the Bisons. Sanchez drove in five runs with two doubles and a home run as he finished his Tech career as the school's all-time leader in at-bats (712) and doubles (57).

Simpson wraps up the year the same way he started it, winning a Pitcher of the Week accolade. The hometown product from Magnolia claims his fifth career award and fourth this season after a masterful performance against the West Division Co-Champions Delta State. The sophomore scattered three hits and one run over seven and two-thirds innings with three walks and 10 strikeouts as Southern Arkansas claimed a share of its first-ever Division title, 6-1.
