Will Gowdy and Caleb Powers earn GSC Awards

Ouachita Baptist first baseman Will Gowdy (JR, L/R, 6-4, 210, Amarillo, Texas) and Arkansas Tech pitcher Caleb Powers (SO, R/R, 6-2, 190, Dover, Ark.) are the Gulf South Conference Baseball West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending March 29.

Gowdy claims his second accolade this season with a monster week at the plate for the Tigers. The Amarillo, Texas native saved his best for a crucial league series with cross-street rival Henderson State, going eight-for-nine with nine RBI, five doubles and a home run as OBU took two of three from the Reddies. The junior had 17 total bases in four games as the Tigers also took a mid-week contest from then-No. 13 North Alabama, 7-5.

Powers nabs his first ever Pitcher of the Week honor after throwing his first career complete game shutout at Christian Brothers this past Sunday. The sophomore from Dover, Ark. scattered four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in nine innings as the Wonder Boys swept the Bucs and moved into sole possession of second place in the GSC West Division.
