SAU picks up awards


NCBWA All-Americans:
Junior starting pitcher Hayden Simpson (Magnolia) and senior third baseman Cannon Lester (El Dorado) repeat first team honors from the Daktronics’ team released earlier, while senior shortstop Andrew Whittington (Texas City, Texas) does the same on the third team. Simpson was also honored by the NCBWA with his second national pitcher of the year accolade.
Junior first baseman Logan Williams (Damascus) and junior outfielder Pat Johnson (Natchitoches, La.) were honorable mention selections.

Daktronics All-Americans:
Junior starting pitcher Hayden Simpson (Magnolia) of Southern Arkansas headlines the 2010 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II All-America baseball team, earning the national Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year award. Simpson is joined on the Daktronics first team by senior third baseman Cannon Lester (El Dorado), while teammate senior shortstop Andrew Whittington (Texas City, Texas) was named to the third team.

ESPN Academic All-American:
Shortstop Andrew Whittington (Texas City, Texas), a senior on the Southern Arkansas baseball team, has been named first team on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® college division baseball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
